During the glosa of her Segundo Informe de Gobierno, President Claudia Sheinbaum highlighted that in just 23 months her administration has driven 76 legal reforms and 27 constitutional changes, a package designed to restore the social sense of the Constitution and strengthen national sovereignty like updating an old computer program without losing the important documents.
Legal advisor Luisa María Alcalde explained changes in food sovereignty, prohibition of transgenic corn, right to water and combat to hoarding, plus measures against foreign intervention and political propaganda on media. Nepotism was prohibited, popular consultations were promoted and organisms like INAI were transformed into Transparencia para el Pueblo. In security laws were created against extortion, fentanyl, money laundering and feminicide, while the Guardia Nacional passed to the command of Defensa Nacional and the Sistema Nacional de Inteligencia was established. The judicial reform includes popular election of judges, Tribunal de Disciplina and mandatory evaluation, all to reduce times and abuses in amparos. In welfare social programs were elevated to constitutional rights, the workday was reduced to 40 hours, platform workers and agricultural day laborers were protected. Sheinbaum highlighted the recognition to indigenous peoples and the defense of native corn as deep milestones. Although she faced commercial tensions with the United States due to tariffs and extradition requests, the president highlighted as most gratifying moments the tours around the country inaugurating works.
At the end, these reforms seem a serious attempt to order the house before more unexpected visits arrive.
